Two Everett men were charged with felonies Monday for allegedly orchestrating the theft of thousands of dollars of musical instruments in a single day at stores in Snohomish County.
Ernest Gregory Coupe, 48, and Edward Ray Little, 21, on May 23 posed as a father and son seeking to rent musical instruments, deputy prosecutor Julie Mohr said in Superior Court papers.
The pair are suspected of running out of a Marysville music store with an alto saxophone valued at $1,195. That same day, they allegedly took a $2,100 trumpet and a $1,000 violin from a Bothell business.
Little allegedly tried to pawn the saxophone, but fled when challenged, leaving behind the instrument and his identification, according to court papers, Mohr wrote.
When confronted by police, one of the defendants said the missing violin was broken into pieces and thrown away out of frustration over not being able to pawn it for cash.
Both men are charged with two counts of second-degree theft.
