CLEARVIEW – Two men, both 23, were stabbed and shots were fired at a party in the Clearview area early Saturday.
One of the men was admitted to Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland after surgery for a stab wound, said Rich Niebusch, spokesman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. No further information on his condition was available Monday.
The other man was treated at the hospital and released, Niebusch said. One of the men is from Bothell; the other is from Snohomish.
Police were still investigating the incident for charges of first-degree assault and had not made any arrests as of Monday, Niebusch said.
The trouble began when a man at the party in the 6000 block of 192nd Street SE was behaving rudely, Niebusch said. About midnight, he was asked to leave.
“Basically he’s making inappropriate comments and just being a rude party guest,” Niebusch said.
An hour later, the man came back with 10 to 15 other people, who were armed with guns and knives, according to Niebusch.
“They began provoking fights,” he said.
Someone from the party called police on a cell phone about 1:30 a.m. and reported that people were being stabbed and shot, Niebusch said. The caller was partly in error; no one suffered any gunshot wounds, he said.
A window of a car on the premises was shot out. Police are investigating whether shots were fired toward people, Niebusch said.
The men stabbed were among the party guests and not part of the armed group, he said. Police are conducting interviews among the 40 to 50 guests to get more information about the assailants.
Niebusch said the single-family residence where the party was held had not been any trouble to police in the past. He said there was no evidence to suggest that drugs other than alcohol were used at the party.
“It was a drinking party,” he said.
