KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Moderate earthquakes hit off the Southern Oregon coast and in the Klamath Falls area on Wednesday.
There were no immediate reports of damage from either quake.
A 4.3-magnitude quake that rattled the Klamath Falls area had an epicenter about 6 miles west of the city, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network in Seattle.
The quake also was felt in Ashland and Medford. It registered at 10:54 a.m.
“The building shook, windows rattled, then it rolled,” said Kathy Kodak of Ashland Vineyards. “My husband went out to the winery and saw all the wine sloshing around in the tanks.”
Cecilia Amuchastegui, who works in the Klamath Falls school district, said students at some schools felt the quake.
“What we felt more was just a rumbling, a movement of the floor,” she said.
A 5.4-magnitude earthquake shook the sea floor about 140 miles off the southern Oregon coast at Coos Bay shortly after 7 a.m.
The tremor was centered about 6.2 miles beneath the earth’s surface, west of Coos Bay, according to the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo.
The quake reportedly was not felt by coastal residents.
The temblors follow a 5.2 quake that hit the San Francisco Bay Area Monday night.
