BARING — An Arlington woman and a 17-year-old Wenatchee boy were both seriously injured in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon on U.S. 2.
A section of U.S. 2 near milepost 44 in Baring was shut down for about two hours while officials investigated what caused a Ford Escort to cross over the centerline on a curve and strike a Cadillac DTS heading the other direction just before 3 p.m.
The driver of the Ford, Williem Keyser, 17, of Wenatchee, was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with massive head injuries, said Washington State Patrol trooper Mark Francis.
The other driver, Doris Papka, 65, of Arlington, was taken by ambulance to the Colby campus of Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with life-threatening injuries.
Two other passengers in Papka’s car were taken to Monroe Valley General in Monroe with less serious injuries. They are Keith Papka, 64, and Elizabeth Smith, 74, both of Arlington.
“Speed may be a factor,” Francis said.
