EVERETT— Two men were shot Friday night during an exchange of gunfire reportedly involving the father of a boy they had followed home, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Both men were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but their injuries were not life-threatening, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.
The incident, which occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in the 10400 block of 29th Avenue S.E., started after a confrontation between people in two vehicles earlier in the evening. The dispute "resulted in one car going after another," Jorgensen said.
A boy in the car being followed called his father on the way home and told him what was happening. The father then called the sheriff’s office and armed himself, Jorgensen said.
After both cars arrived at the home, "there was an exchange of gunfire. We have not determined at this point who fired the first shot," Jorgensen said.
Two people in the second vehicle, believed to be between the ages of 17 and 20, were shot. The two were driven to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus prior to sheriff’s deputies arriving at the scene.
Jorgensen said deputies contacted the hospital and learned two people with gunshot wounds were there.
No one else was injured. Jorgensen said no one was taken into custody Friday night, and detectives are still investigating to find out more about what caused the confrontation.
