SNOHOMISH — Two men who went shooting this weekend in rural Snohomish were arrested after bullets hit a nearby home.
The suspects, 41 and 55, were on family property aiming at pallets propped against tires, said Shari Ireton, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. There was no other backstop.
The neighbor happened to be a Washington State Patrol trooper. At least one bullet went into his kitchen, according to a police report. He heard a noise over his shoulder and saw damage to the wall about 8 feet away. Another bullet went through a gutter on the roof.
The trooper got his family on the ground and called 911. That happened about 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Three Lakes area, northeast of town. Sheriff’s deputies helped the man and his young children get out of the home .
Deputies also demanded , unsuccessfully, a ceasefire using a loudspeaker.
The shooters were found nearby. The trooper’s garage was about a quarter-mile from their targets, the report said.
The men were booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of malicious mischief and reckless endangerment, which are misdemeanor offenses. They have posted bail pending court hearings.
