A pair of staffers on Donald Trump’s campaign who worked on a team that managed the mogul’s surrogates have resigned, becoming the latest in a string of comings and goings from the campaign in the last couple of weeks.
Even as Trump continues to add new staffers for the general election, others are leaving, signaling turmoil in the team’s ranks.
Kevin Kellems, who was recently brought on to be the director of surrogates on Trump’s campaign, announced his departure in a short note obtained by The Washington Post. Erica Freeman, another aide who worked with surrogates, has also resigned, a person familiar with her decision said.
“While brief, it has been an interesting experience, and am proud of the contributions made through our early-phase project endeavors. Also have enjoyed meeting some fine and dedicated individuals throughout the organization. Look forward to running across several of you going forward,” Kellems wrote.
A Trump spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment on the moves.
It has been a busy couple of weeks on the staffing front in Trump’s campaign. He fired campaign manager Corey Lewandowki last week. This week, he brought on former Ted Cruz aide Jason Miller as senior communications adviser and added Kellyanne Conway to the polling team. Conway previously headed up a pro-Cruz super PAC.
But amid the additions, there have been notable departures. Vincent Harris, a strategist whom the campaign recently enlisted to help with its digital efforts, is no longer associated with the campaign.
“We were not fired. We completed our various creative projects … I wish all involved good things! have reflected & learned from this commotion,” Harris tweeted Thursday.
