EVERETT – Two early morning fires sent two women to the hospital.
Firefighters were called just after 3:30 a.m. for a woman with breathing problems, Everett Fire Marshal Warren Burns said. Medics noticed that woman, in her 70s, had burns and smoke was coming from the house in the 3000 block of 19th Street. The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Firefighters discovered a small fire in the house. The woman apparently fell asleep in chair while smoking a cigarette, Burns said. No one else in the house was injured.
A second fire broke out just before 4:30 a.m. at Fulton’s Crossing apartment complex. A woman was reportedly burning cardboard in her apartment which ignited other boxes in the living room, Burns said. The woman ran out of the apartment, yelling for help. She went back inside the building and was on the balcony when firefighters arrived, Burns said. The woman jumped about 10 feet to the ground before firefighters were able to reach her. She was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, Burns said.
