STEVENS PASS — U.S. 2 was closed for more than an hour this morning after a snow slide blocked all lanes about a mile-and-a-half west of the summit, officials said.
State crews were monitoring the unstable snow in the area, warning that additional slides are possible today.
No one was hurt in the slide this morning, and crews were able to quickly clear the highway, said Jeff Adamson, a state Department of Transportation spokesman.
The slide was reported at about 7:43 a.m. and the road was reopened just after 9 a.m., he said.
The slide was about 3 feet deep and 50 feet across.
Heavy snows over the last few weeks have built up a deep snow pack in the area. Warmer temperatures today loosened a layer of snow sending into the road, Adamson said.
Crews will be checking the stability of snow throughout the area today, he said.
