UK Treasury chief visits United States for Wall Street talks

LONDON — Britain’s Treasury chief is visiting the United States for talks with investors on Wall Street following Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.

The Treasury says George Osborne’s visit Monday to New York is the first of a series of missions to urge some of the biggest investors to “stick with” the U.K. at a time of uncertainty following the vote. Trips Singapore and China will follow next week.

Osborne says his message to the world is that while Britain is leaving the European Union “we are not quitting the world.?”

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is also visiting Britain later this week.

America is the largest single destination for U.K. exports. In 2014, U.K. exports to the U.S. totaled 88 billion pounds ($113 billion) or 17 percent of U.K. exports.
