EDMONDS — Divers on Sunday afternoon pulled a fellow diver in distress from under 15 feet of water. The man’s condition was described as life-threatening.
Bystanders at the Brackett’s Landing Underwater Park north of the ferry dock heard a scuba diver’s cries for help about 12:15 p.m., Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
“Witnesses saw the diver surface three times yelling for help, then he went under and didn’t come back up,” she said.
Ron Migas of Everett and his dive partner were getting ready to enter the water. They followed the current and directions from people on shore to the spot where the diver was last seen. Migas found the unconscious diver under 15 feet of water about 50 feet from a jetty, Hynes said.
People were pulling the diver to shore when paramedics arrived. The man was still unconscious when medics drove him to Stevens Hospital, Hynes said. It wasn’t immediately known what went wrong while the man was diving.
Hynes said she couldn’t reveal more details about the man’s condition citing privacy laws.
