EVERETT — Some folks just don’t know how to avoid drawing attention to themselves.
About noon Saturday, a man took a taxi from an apartment complex in the 600 block of 112th Street SE to a convenience store, where he bought bandages and sunglasses, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said Tuesday.
The cabdriver then drove the man to the south Everett Fred Meyer store. The man asked the driver for a paper and a writing tool, and requested the driver to wait, Bryant said. The man entered near an in-store bank, and when he didn’t return the cabdriver called police to report a theft of services.
Officers entered the bank and learned that a man wearing Band-Aids under his eyes and sunglasses had asked if any other banks nearby were open. Bank employees directed him to the Wells Fargo Bank on Evergreen Way.
Officers then were dispatched to that bank for a robbery, Bryant said. The suspect had presented a note and robbed the bank, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The description matched that of a man who had robbed the Key Bank on California Street about 3:50 p.m. Friday, Bryant said.
Following the clues, officers were led to an apartment at the Lago de Plata complex, where they learned the suspect’s name, Bryant said.
They showed a photo montage, including his picture, to a Wells Fargo teller, who identified the man.
On Sunday, he was spotted inside Fred Meyer, Bryant said. Police arrested him and booked him into the Snohomish County Jail on investigation of first-degree robbery and second-degree theft, Bryant said.
