The gardening season is underway. If you need to get out in the dirt, here are some events you may enjoy.
Garden sale to benefit Seattle Children’s.
When: Friday, April 16, noon to 6pm; Saturday, April 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, April 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees will be for sale. Many of the plants were propagated on hospital grounds. Seattle Children’s groundskeepers will be available to provide advice.

Sustainable Eats open garden
When: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 16
What: Annette Cottrell, the fantastic blogger at Sustainable Eats will open up her garden to visitors. Annette has an mind-boggling garden setup, and is on a mission to grow enough veggies to feed her family all year. She suggests carpooling, as parking is limited.

Free gardening class, plastic pot exchange.
When: Saturday, April 16, beginning at 10 a.m.
What: Classes and pot exchange
- Composting, 10 a.m.
- Native plants and noxious weeds control, 11:15 a.m.
- Rain barrel construction, 12:30 p.m.
You can also drop off or pick up plastic plant pots. If you drop them off, they should be reasonably clean, without any dirt, tags or wire.
Where: Four Springs Preserve, 585 Lewis Lane, on Camano Island. Follow signs from Camano Hill Road.
Growing herbs
When: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17
What: A class on selecting, planting, caring for and using herbs.

Native Plants: Combining Beauty with Water Conservation
When: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17
What: Learn about native plants that perform well in Northwest gardens. The instructor will also cover water saving techinques.
Where: Sky Nursery, 18528 Aurora Ave. N. Shoreline
Northwest Perennial Alliance Spring Plant Sale
When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 18
What: Select from thousands of plants choices. The plants come from nurseries, the Bellevue Botanical Garden and members’ gardens.

Rock ‘N Doodle Whidbey Island Chicken Coop Tour
When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 24
What: A tour of chicken coops on Whidbey Island. The tour will present the “best, funniest, funkiest and most beautiful chicken coops and enclosures” on the island, nine in all.

Seattle Dahlia Society Tuber and Plant Sale
When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 24 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, Sunday, April 25
What: Shop for dahlia tubers and other plans on sale from the Seattle Dahlia Society. Members of the society will offer planting tips and advice.

Grand opening, Edmonds Wildlife Habitat Native Plant Demonstration Garden
When: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, April 25
What: Edmonds has earned certification as a Community Backyard Wildlife Habitat. As part of the celebration, the new native plant garden will be open. Events include speakers and information on gardening with native plants that will attract wildlife. You can also learn how to get your own backyard certified as a wildlife habitat.
