SPOKANE — Officials for the University of Washington and Washington State University are apparently close to an agreement regarding Washington State’s proposal to open its own medical school in Spokane.
Representatives of the two schools have been meeting and WSU President Elson Floyd says they are nearing agreement.
The Spokesman-Review reported Friday that University of Washington spokesman Norman Arkans also says the schools have reached a mutual understanding.
But no details have been released about the talks yet.
Last month, WSU announced it would seek state approval to open its own medical school, which would focus on increasing the number of physicians practicing in underserved rural areas. UW has opposed that proposal.
