SEATTLE — The Peace Corps says Washington is one of the best states for recruiting volunteers.
For 2013 volunteers, the University of Washington, Western Washington University and Gonzaga were top recruiting schools in their categories of large, medium and small colleges.
Five other universities in Washington state also made the Peace Corps top college rankings this year, for the number of alumni who are serving as volunteers. Those schools are Seattle University, University of Puget Sound, Evergreen State College, Whitman College and Pacific Lutheran University.
The University of Washington, which often makes the top five of large colleges, contributed 107 volunteers to tie with the University of Florida for first place. Western dominates the medium college ranks with 73 volunteers this year. Gonzaga is tops in small colleges with 24 volunteers.
