SEATTLE — The University of Washington’s new president, Ana Mari Cauce, will be making $910,000 in total compensation, a few thousand more than WSU’s Elson Floyd was paid in total compensation before he died earlier this year.
That will likely put Cauce into the Top 10 of public university presidential salaries, according to recent data from the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The University of Washington Board of Regents approved a five-year contract for the new president on Thursday. Her annual salary will be $697,500. She will also receive $150,000 each year in deferred compensation, plus a $12,000 annual car allowance and $50,500 for her retirement account.
Her predecessor, Michael Young, who now earns more than $1 million at Texas A&M, earned $854,000 in total compensation at the University of Washington. His last raise at UW was $50,000 in October 2014 so if he had stayed, it’s likely he would have been paid a comparable amount this year.
When she signed her contract, Cauce announced she will donate $500,000 to the university over the five years of her contract for scholarships and other programs to help students.
