SNOHOMISH — Maybe it was just a brick tossed through a window.
Still, the crime at the Snohomish Senior Center on Super Bowl Sunday displaced senior activities and caused about $580 in damage.
A new front window was ordered Tuesday and should be installed in the next week or so, Executive Director Bob Dvorak said. The center’s insurance has a $500 deductible, he said.
“We had to cancel our Super Bowl party because there was glass everywhere,” he said.
Snohomish police are investigating. No suspects have been identified, Police Chief John Flood said.
The rock was too dirty for officers to collect fingerprints, Flood said.
The rock, described as a brick or similar-sized chunk of concrete, busted a 24-inch opening in the double-pane window, Dvorak said.
He thinks the noise must have scared off the culprit. Nothing was stolen.
“The shards were such big pieces of glass that no one would have dared climb in there,” he said.
The senior center had to cancel its Super Bowl viewing party and the afternoon pinochle group.
A flier posted to another window at the senior center notified folks of the cancellation. The flier was signed “Bob” and showed a hand-drawn sad face.
At the senior center, donations, dues and rental fees don’t always match expenses of serving hundreds of members, Dvorak said.
“$500 is a significant amount of money in our cash flow,” he said. “It definitely hurts.”
The crime was reported about 10:30 a.m., Flood said. It’s believed to have happened sometime the night before.
