Two people have been charged with vehicular homicide in separate traffic collisions, one last week in Marysville and the second more than a year ago in south Everett. deputy
Alcohol was involved in both incidents, Snohomish County prosecutor Joan Cavagnaro said.
Andrew Wolfe, 35, of Seattle was charged Tuesday in Everett District Court with one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault in a New Year’s Eve collision on Smokey Point Boulevard.
Wolfe’s van plowed into the back of a Mercury Cougar, and a passenger, Miguel Grimaldo, was killed. Two other people were seriously injured, according to court documents.
Marysville police said Wolfe had been drinking, a violation of conditions set for a previous conviction. He was being held on $100,000 bail.
In the second incident, Bobbie Jo Kubo, 34, of Everett was charged Wednesday in Snohomish County Superior Court with vehicular homicide in a Nov. 17, 2003, collision in the 13800 block of Meadow Road.
Cavagnaro said Kubo’s alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit two hours after the collision, and tests showed she also had used marijuana.
The prosecutor said Kubo was speeding and attempting to pass another car in a no-passing area when Kubo’s vehicle clipped an oncoming car. It spun around and struck another oncoming vehicle, killing Jane Nishikawa, 71, Cavagnaro said.
At the time of the accident, Kubo told police she had been driving a damaged Ford Ranger but denied that she tried to pass anyone. She also claimed she had been driving near the 35-mph limit when she saw headlights in her lane. She told officers she swerved control.
A sheriff’s office investigation, however, determined that it was the Ford Ranger that clipped the Nishikawa car in the wrong lane, Cavagnaro said.
