Here are events planned for Veterans Day:
Arlington: A parade is planned along Olympic Avenue in Arlington at 11 a.m. Sunday by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1561 and Arlington American Legion Post 76. Lunch follows at 12:30 p.m. at 115 N. Olympic Ave. It’s free for veterans, $5 for all others.
Everett: The Snohomish County Central Memorial Committee offers a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Eternal Flame at the Snohomish County Courthouse, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. The guest speaker is U.S. Navy Cmdr. Donald Leingang from Naval Station Everett.
Everett Elks Lodge No. 479 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2100 will honor veterans with a dinner at 5 p.m. Monday at the VFW hall, 2711 Oakes Ave., Everett. The menu includes Swiss steak, red potatoes, vegetables, salad and dessert. Dinner is free to all veterans, $8 for others. For information, call 425-252-4179 or 425-252-2100 today.
Lake Stevens: Members of Lake Stevens American Legion Post No. 181 will give out red poppies from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Jay’s Market; Safeway, Albertson’s, Haggen’s, Ace Hardware and Tom Thumb. The poppies were made by disabled American veterans and purchased from them by the local post in Lake Stevens. Information on the tradition of the poppy and Flanders Fields will also be given out.
Donations will be accepted throughout the day to be used by the American Legion to help local veterans and currently-serving military and their families. Legion programs that benefit the community such as Boys and Girls State, Legion Baseball, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Blue Star Service Banners, Children’s Welfare, Constitutional Speech Contest, Flag Etiquette, recognitions, and scholarships receive most of the funding from Poppy Days.
Lynnwood: Veterans will be honored at 11 a.m. Sunday at Veteran’s Park, 19300 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood, by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 and American Legion Post 37. The ceremony is expected to include bagpipe players, bugle taps and an honor guard rifle squad.
Marysville: A Veterans Day chili luncheon is planned by American Legion Post 178 from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the Post Hall, 115 Cedar Ave., Marysville.
Mill Creek: Advent Lutheran Church hosts a Veterans Day worship service at 7 p.m. Monday at 4306 132nd St. SE. The Rev. Rod Voreb, of Bethany of the Northwest, will give the message. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War. All offerings received will be given to homeless ministries in Snohomish County. Candlelight prayers will be offered for soldiers overseas. All are welcome.
Sultan: A free turkey dinner for veterans and friends is planned for 5 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Sky Valley Eagles, 1112 E. Main St. Donations are accepted. Hosted by Sultan VFW Post 2554 and Sky Valley Eagles Post 4149.
