The following events are scheduled in recognition of Veterans Day, which is Tuesday.
FOR VETERANS
Larsen talk: U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen holds a roundtable discussion with veterans from 2:30–3:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in room 352 of the Gateway Building on the campus of Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
Children’s Museum: Veterans and their immediate family members receive free admission Nov. 11 to Imagine Children’s Museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett. There will be a “Wall of Thanks” and a Veterans Tribute ceremony at noon. A special exhibit includes model ships, courtesy of Northwest R.C. Ship Modelers. Boeing tour: The Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour offers free admission Nov. 11 to U.S. and Canadian military veterans, including retired and active duty military (in uniform or with military ID. Boeing tours are offered on a space-available basis and cannot be reserved. The center is at 8415 Paine Field Blvd., Mukilteo. More info: 425-438-8100, www.futureofflight.org.
Museum: The Flying Heritage Collection offers free admission to veterans and current active duty members Nov. 11. The museum is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at 3407 109th St. SW, Everett. More info: 877-342-3404, info@flyingheritage.com.
YMCA: All YMCA of Snohomish County family branches will be open to all military (active or retired) and families Nov. 11. Military ID is required. The Marysville Family YMCA also offers Military Family Night at 4 p.m. Nov. 15, with dinner, games, crafts, family swim time, dodgeball and more. All active duty, reserve and National Guard families with current military ID are invited. Register at the member services desk or email Allison at AHoot@ymca-snoco.org to reserve a space.
Car washes: Brown Bear offers free “Bear Essentials” car washes to all current or former members of the military on Nov. 11. See www.brownbear.com for a list of participating tunnel wash locations.
Cabela’s: Cabela’s Tulalip, 9810 Quil Ceda Blvd., offers all veterans, active duty military and reserve, law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel a 10 percent discount off anything in the store except firearms and 5 percent off firearms, through Nov. 11, as part of a Hometown Heroes Celebration. Olive Garden: Active duty military and veterans with proof of military service can get a free entree from a special menu Nov. 11 at Olive Garden restaurants.
COMMUNITY CEREMONIES
Arlington: A Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, sponsored by American Legion Post 76. A POW-MIA ceremony is at 4 p.m. at the Legion Hall, 115 N. Olympic Ave. The Auxiliary serves a free dinner to all veterans from 5-7 p.m. Cost of the dinner to non-veterans is $6. Menu includes ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans and rolls. Edmonds: Edmonds Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8870 and the city of Edmonds hold a Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the future Edmonds Veterans Plaza in downtown Edmonds, 250 Fifth Ave. N. Edmonds Mayor David Earling and Fallen Heroes Project artist Michael Reagan are to speak.
Everett: The Snohomish County Central Memorial Committee holds its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the eternal flame on the Snohomish County Courthouse campus, 3000 Rockefeller Ave. Mayor Ray Stephanson is to speak. The Navy chaplain and Everett High School’s Navy Junior ROTC also are to participate.
Mill Creek: The city holds a Veterans Day ceremony at 12 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Monument in Library Park. 15429 Bothell Everett Highway.
Lynnwood: The Lynnwood Veterans Day ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Park, 44th Avenue West and Veterans Way (194th Street SW). Veterans of Foreign War Post 1040, Mayor Nicola Smith, and the Northwest Jr. Pipe Band are to participate.
Marysville: The American Legion Post 178 holds a celebration at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the south side of Carr’s Ace Hardware, 1521 Second St., or in case of rain at the post, 119 Cedar Ave. A community open house at the post follows. More info: american.legion.post178@gmail.com or 360-722-7825.
PUBLIC EVENTS
Letters Aloud: The “Letters Aloud: Private Letters Read in Public” series will be offered at a Veterans Day celebration “From the Front,” 7:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. WWII artifacts: The Everett Mall hosts World War II artifacts from the Flying Heritage Collection on Nov. 11. More info: www.flyingheritage.com.
USO dance: Join veterans from all wars as they dance the afternoon away at the annual USO dance, 1-5 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. Admission is free for all, but a ticket is required for entrance.
