EDMONDS — No one was injured after part of a walkway collapsed Thursday night along Highway 99.
Just after 10 p.m., calls came in about trouble at the Ranch 99 Market shopping center in the 22500 block of the highway in Edmonds.
Fire crews who responded found that 20 feet of a covered walkway’s roof had collapsed.
They also found broken, leaking sprinkler pipes, lots of broken glass and about a foot of standing water, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
Investigation later determined that a sprinkler leak caused the damage, she said. It appeared that cracked, frozen pipes thawed and burst, dumping more water than the walkway roof could hold.
The market was closed at the time of the collapse. Most of the affected businesses reopened Friday except for a nail and hair salon.
Damage was estimated at $20,000.
