TUKWILA — A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a young man in the fatal shooting of a teenager at the Southcenter Mall.
Police are looking for 21-year-old Barry L. Saunders, described as 5 feet, 6 inches with black hair and brown eyes and possibly armed.
Saunders is sought on a warrant charging him with second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
He is accused of firing the shots that killed 16-year-old Daiquin L. Jones and wounded 15-year-old Jermaine McGowan last weekend.
Police officer Mike Murphy said Tuesday that Saunders is the only person being sought in the shooting. Shoppers and employees ran in panic as gunfire erupted in an argument between two groups of young people at the mall Saturday afternoon.
Jones died Saturday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. McGowan was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday at Harborview.
Tukwila police refused to answer questions Tuesday about suspected gang affiliations, any relationship between Saunders and the shooting victims or possible connections to other local shootings. They said the information is part of their investigation.
They did tell a news conference they think the victims were targeted by the shooter, but refused to elaborate.
