“Goooood mmmorning Everett!”
A movie star may have made a pit stop in Everett last week.
Lois and Arnie Sande were eating Feb. 11 at McDonald’s at 7920 Evergreen Way and noticed a group of nice-looking, dark-haired men also having lunch.
And there was a gentleman with that group.
Lois Sande, who is retired, recognized the gentleman, but couldn’t put a name to the face.
She racked her brain, to no avail.
Sande passed their table and told the quiet man he looked very familiar.
The man reached in his pocket, pulled out a pen with green ink, grabbed Sande’s receipt off her tray, wrote a name for her to keep and never said a word.
The group of young men and the gentleman all drove off in a white van.
Sande looked at her receipt, which read “Robin Williams.”
Hey pardner, that’s a mighty fine e-mail handle.
For “gunfighter11,” it was an obvious choice.
Steve Pennington, 58, of Edmonds, is retired from The Boeing Co. and the Washington Air National Guard.
He is co-chairman of the public relations committee for the Masonic Grand Lodge of Washington.
“Gunfighter was the call sign of my unit in Vietnam, the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, DaNang Airbase, RVN (Republic of Vietnam),” Pennington says. “I am the secretary of our association and we have annual reunions. We have members from World War II through the present.”
Thank you for your service.
We ran a picture Friday of what could have been a Willie Nelson heron.
Well, the snapshot showed a bird on Whidbey Island with a beard.
One reader thought it looked like a snowy egret.
Annette Colombini of Marysville had a different opinion.
“I’m pretty sure that’s a great blue heron, with its neck tucked down, maybe from the cold,” she said. “It looks like the wind is catching the feathers on its chest, making it look fluffier than maybe it is. It’s a beautiful looking bird. Its feathers look to be in great shape and very colorful.”
Bob Sindelar, publicity chairman with the Pilchuck Audubon Society, agreed it’s a great blue heron.
Fun fact: Republicans still turned out for a precinct committee meeting when the Seattle Seahawks were in a big playoff game.
Billye Brooks-Sebastiani, president of the Evergreen Republic women, was at the meeting Jan. 5.
“The turnout was outstanding,” she said. “At that time, I believe there were 85 out of more than 100 newly appointed precinct committee officers that showed up for training.”
Many mentioned they were taping the game, and didn’t want to know the score, she said.
After doing their civic duty, they learned the Seahawks beat the Redskins, in a marvelous, nonpartisan outing.
