OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Legislature is considering a bill that would help the children of military parents when they transfer into a Washington school district.
It’s an interstate agreement that standardizes tests, graduation requirements, immunization regulations and eligibility rules for sports. The Tacoma News Tribune reports 11 states have already approved the compact.
An attempt to ratify the agreement failed last year in the Washington Legislature.
A Senate education committee held a hearing Wednesday on the bill. Representatives of Fort Lewis, McChord Air Force Base testified. Some education officials questioned whether the state could delegate its school authority to the federal commission that oversees the agreement.
