JUNEAU, Alaska — A Washington state man convicted of murdering a Juneau woman is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
Jacob Andrew Mommer, 20, returns to court May 31 for the hearing on the January 2012 slaying of Ashton Ericka-Marie Reyes, the Juneau Empire reported.
A jury earlier this month convicted Mommer of first-degree murder and second-degree assault, a spokesman for the King County prosecutor’s office, Dan Donohoe, said. Mommer could face up to about 36 years in prison, he said.
Prosecutors said a Seattle police investigation found that Reyes was killed in a drug-deal-gone-bad in Rainier Beach, a residential neighborhood about 20 minutes south of downtown Seattle. Her boyfriend, who was with her, survived.
Reyes, according to her obituary, attended Juneau-Douglas High School and Yaakoosge’ Daakahidi Alternative High School and the University of Alaska Southeast. She graduated from Everest Community College in Washington in November 2011 and became a registered dental assistant.
