Each year, The Herald publishes a list of opportunities for people who would like to volunteer their time or make donations to ensure that their fellow community members have happy holidays.
The Arc of Snohomish County, 1615 California St., Everett, provides support for people with developmental disabilities. Its wish list includes nonperishable food, gloves, mittens, caps and toys. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; call 425-258-2459.
Cascade High School, 801 E. Casino Road, Everett, feeds 100 families from the Everett community for one week during the holidays and supplies gifts for children in those families. The school will accept nonperishable food, cash and unopened toys and gifts from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from Nov. 30 through Dec. 11; call 425-356-4522.
Catholic Community Services Northwest, 1918 Everett Ave., Everett, offers a chemical dependency program, mental health counseling, transportation, help for people with AIDS, foster care and a crisis nursery. Donors are needed to adopt families and to contribute to the Christmas Giving Project. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; call 425-257-2111, ext. 3361.
Christmas House of Everett, 2200 Hewitt Ave., provides toys, gifts and essentials to low-income families. Parents visit the Christmas House “store” to select items for their children.
This year, agency needs include new toys, packaged socks and underwear for toddlers through adults, new slippers in any size, gifts for teens, new blankets and anything that might make a suitable Christmas gift.
Christmas House needs volunteers to help set up and to work there. Setup will take place though November. The store will be open Dec. 7, 8, 9, 12 to 16, and 19 to 22. Cocoon House provides assistance for teens who need shelter, food, counseling or clothing. This year, it needs umbrellas; gift certificates for fast food restaurants, grocery stores, bowling, movies and clothing at Everett Mall; murder mystery games, cards, YMCA passes, adult-size socks for boys and girls; and sweat pants for teens sizes small, medium and large. Trewfund is a new program that has a goal to help 50 low-income families in the area have a good holiday season. It needs new toys and clothing. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; call 425-745-3463 to make arrangements for drop off or visit the Web site at www.trewfund.com.
Volunteers of America is a Christian human service agency that provides services for those in need. Volunteers are needed to deliver food baskets and to adopt families. Foundation for Terminally Ill Adults, P.O. Box 1209, Marysville 98270. This organization grants last wishes to adults who are terminally ill. Marysville Parks and Recreation Department will collect food, unwrapped toys and money for Operation Marysville Community Christmas. The group needs evaporated milk, stuffing mix, canned corn, beans, fruit, pancake mix, Jell-O, cake mix and gift certificates for meat, fruit and dairy products, as well as unwrapped toys for children and teens; 360-651-5085.
Marysville Community Food Bank, 6518 60th Drive NE, P.O. Box 917, Marysville, WA 98270. This organization provides emergency food to people in need. Holiday foods are needed for Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as volunteers to make up food boxes. Cash donations are needed also; 360-658-1054.
Equifriends, P.O. Box 856 (9307 72nd St. SE), Snohomish, WA 98296, is a nonprofit charity that offers a therapeutic horseback riding program for children and adults with disabilities. It needs volunteers to work in classes, reams of paper both white and colored, stamps, post cards, hot drink cups, paper plates and bowls, Post-it notes and money for its scholarship fund. Granite Falls Eagles 3358, 402 Granite Ave., Granite Falls, holds a free dinner for seniors at Christmas and collects food and toys for gift baskets for needy families. They need turkeys, canned food, toys and gifts. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; 360-691-7000.
Sky Valley Food Bank, P.O. Box 724 (784 Village Way), Monroe, is open for donations from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The food bank provides food to the needy and is looking for turkeys, canned goods, packaged foods, new toys and money; 360-794-7959.
Matthew House/Simon of Cyrene, 16207 177th Ave. SE, Monroe, offers support services, food and clothes to families of prisoners and an emergency homeless shelter for families in East Snohomish County. The organization needs toys and gifts for children and other family members, winter clothing, hats and mittens, wrapping paper, Christmas tree decorations and holiday food. Clothes for Kids, 19400 56th Ave. W., Lynnwood, provides free new and like-new clothing to needy children from infants to high school age in South Snohomish County and to children enrolled in Snohomish County Head Start. The group needs new or like-new jackets, sweaters, pants for small boys and girls (sizes 4 to 12), hats, gloves, shoes, slippers and nightwear. Food Lifeline, 1702 NE 150th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155, is the largest nonprofit food distribution organization serving Western Washington. Miller’s Interiors Carpet One, 15615 Highway 99, Lynnwood, is a Toys for Tots Donation Center. New unwrapped toys and money will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Call 425-743-3213.

Hopelink, 18220 96th Ave. NE, Bothell, provides food, clothes and rent assistance to people in need. Its list for the holidays includes nonperishable food and new unwrapped gifts of toys and clothes. Pathways needs help in its telephone room to register and screen families for the Basket Bureau. Training will be provided. The telephone room is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday through December.
Adopt a family for Thanksgiving and or the December holidays by calling the Holiday Basket Bureau donor line at 425-712-0971. Sponsors will receive a family profile and a brief wish list. Sponsors can sign up for either Thanksgiving or December holidays.
The Holiday Basket Bureau Toy Shop will be held Dec. 15 at the Church of Christ in Mountlake Terrace. Volunteers are needed Dec. 14 to help set up toys, Dec. 15 to staff a room as parents and children shop, and Dec. 16 to help clean up.
The Toy Shop needs new and like-new toys for children up to the age of 18, especially gifts and gift certificates appropriate for teen-agers. Adult gifts are needed for a room where children can pick out something for their parents.
Wrapping paper, tape and bows and also needed.
Donations to the Holiday Fund through Pathways for Women YWCA go toward food and gifts for last-minute holiday emergencies. Money goes directly to meet client needs. Call Ray at 425-774-9843, ext. 222.
Source Child Center in Mountlake Terrace offers residential treatment for youth with learning and behavioral challenges. It needs Nintendo games, GameBoys and games, clock radios, costumes for dress up, Sega Genesis games, Sony PlayStation games, portable CD players, 35mm cameras and film, PG- or PG-13-rated videotapes, twin-size bedding, bicycles and helmets, and educational computer games; gift certificates for haircuts, bookstores, fast food restaurants, shoes and movies; underwear, socks, pajamas, bathrobes; drawing and construction paper, crayons, markers, colored pencils, jewelry making supplies and art kits; tickets for sport events; a vacuum cleaner, upright steam cleaner, firewood, waterproof mattresses, computers and printers, emergency cell phones and a dining room table that seats 12 people.
