Ways to help animals this holiday season

The holiday season is here, and there are numerous opportunities to help neglected animals in Snohomish County.

Animal shelters need donations, rescued animals need good homes, and sanctuaries need volunteers. There also are opportunities for wildlife rescue, relocation, and rehabilitation.

Here are some ways to help out the furry and feathered as the days grow shorter and the weather more harsh.

All Breed Equine Rez-Q, 2415 116th St. NE, Marysville, cares for horses that have been abused or neglected. Needed are volunteers to care for the horses, the grounds and buildings, and to help plan fundraising events. Monetary donations can be sent directly to the rescue or you can donate at Snohomish Co-op, 168 Lincoln Ave Snohomish, WA 98290; or North West Vet clinic, 8500 Cedarhome Drive, Stanwood, WA 98292. Animal Rescue Foundation of Everett, P.O. Box 12817, Everett, is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that provides funding for the Everett Animal Shelter’s Spay and Neuter Clinic. Donations should be mailed. A Giving Tuesday event, the day after Cyber Monday, is set for Dec. 2 to raise money for animals cared for by the Everett Animal Shelter. Equine Aid Horse and Donkey Rescue, P.O. Box 123, Monroe, needs donations of hay, used tack for the annual tack sale or cash. Volunteers are appreciated. Donate at www.equineaid.net, by mail, in person at Monroe Farm and Feed, or call 360-282-6667.

Humane Society, HappyPaws Farm, 19933 Old Burn Road, Arlington, is a no-kill dog and cat rescue, animal food bank and free veterinary clinic for pets in low-income homes. Pet food and donations to the clinic are needed. Call 360-652-5844 or go to www.saveourdogsandcats.org for more information.

NOAH Center, 31300 Brandstrom Road, Stanwood: Bring your pets or kids for a picture with Santa on Dec. 6. Pictures will be $10 each and all proceeds will go to the animals at NOAH.

New Moon Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary, 19111 Burn Road, Arlington, is a nonprofit dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of animals. The focus is goats, sheep and horses. Volunteers are needed to help work the farm. Other needs include money and donations of clean, dry hay and farm supplies. More information: 425-791-4513 or www.newmoonfarm.org.

PAWS animal shelter and wildlife center in Lynnwood rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and finds new homes for cats and dogs. Needed are volunteers and high-quality canned dog and cat food. To donate, send checks to PAWS, P.O. Box 1037, Lynnwood, WA 98046; call 425-787-2500, ext. 255; or go to www.paws.org.

Purrfect Pals, 230 McRae Road NE, Arlington, is a nonprofit cat shelter and sanctuary based near Smokey Point, and provides low-cost spay and neuter surgeries and adoptions. Donations can be mailed to the above address. More information: 360-652-9611 or go to www.purrfectpals.org.

Sarvey Wildlife Center, 13106 148th St. NE, Arlington, rehabilitates orphaned and injured wildlife and provides educational programs. Needed are liquid laundry and dish detergent, bleach, paper towels, rubber gloves, scrub brushes and sponges, heating pads, dry cat food, baby food, applesauce, peanut butter, raisins and honey.
