MONTEREY, Calif. – Students from Langley Middle School on Whidbey Island were rescued after being trapped during a camping trip in California’s Los Padres National Forest, KIRO-TV reported.
Expecting warm, dry weather, the 19 kids and seven adults planned to spend a week in the wilderness and were equipped with lightweight tents and sleeping bags when a storm blew into the mountains.
Temperatures dropped into the 30s and more than an inch of snow fell. The group was rescued by the local volunteer fire department.
Eight people were treated for minor injuries that included scrapes and sprains, KIRO reported.
Police will meet with the public on Thursday to discuss a level 2 sex offender who is moving to the area.
The sex offender will live in the 800 block of Ford Avenue in Snohomish after he is released on April 19, according to the Snohomish Police Department.
The meeting will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Emerson Elementary School gym, at 1103 Pine St. in Snohomish.
