More than Mukilteo affected by airport. About 100,000 people live within a three-mile radius of Paine Field, a Herald data analysis shows. More than 60 percent of the homes in the area were built since 1979, the year the county adopted a plan outlining the airport’s role which some argue bans commercial flights.

County seeks input on rural land rules Hoping to avoid the uproar that followed King County’s changes to its rule about private land use near waterways, Snohomish County is holding a series of public meetings on the tougher restrictions. The next meeting is Wednesday at Monroe Junior High School, 1408 W. Main St., Monroe.
Tuesday July 19
Sonics name Weiss head coach. Longtime Seattle assistant coach Bob Weiss takes Nate McMillan’s place. Weiss, 63, admitted that his lack of success as a head coach for other teams had led him to believe another opportunity would never arrive.
Wednesday, July 20
34-acre retail center planned. WinCo Foods and Kohl’s will anchor a new shopping area on 116th Street NE in Marysville. When completed, the $18 million shopping center will include 255,000 square feet of retail space – about 30,000 square feet larger than the town center complex at State Avenue and Fourth Street.
Thursday, July 21
Voter ID now required at polls. A driver’s license, utility bill or bank statement will satisfy the new requirement, one of several election reforms that just became law. Those without proof of ID will be given a provisional ballot.
Friday, July 22
Major county drug ring exposed. Up to 150 police and federal agents arrested 25 people and the seized 5 kilograms of methamphetamine during a countywide raid. Police also seized a half-kilogram of cocaine, 2 ounces of heroin, eight guns, a dozen vehicles and $71,000.
Saturday, July 23
Judge, lawyer admit scheme. Edmonds Municipal Court judge James Lloyd White and Shoreline attorney A. Mark Vanderveen pleaded guilty Friday to federal crimes for hiding thousands of dollars of illegal drug money, some of which arrived in a backpack and some in a brown paper bag.
