WENATCHEE — Wenatchee Mayor Frank Kuntz is proposing cuts in police and fire services to balance the city budget.
He said the city could cut eight employees from the fire department by contracting with private ambulance services. He also plans to cut three officers and a clerk from the police department.
KPQ reported that an overflow crowd packed the city council chambers Thursday night to hear about the budget cuts. Kuntz said sales tax revenues have dropped while the cost of providing services goes up.
The layoffs would take effect Aug. 1.
