MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Water briefly flowed onto I-5 and an on-ramp in Mountlake Terrace making for a wet Tuesday morning commute.
A Sound Transit contractor moving a noise barrier wall hit a water main around 8:30 a.m., causing water to pour onto the on-ramp at 220th Street SW and wetting I-5. Construction debris was washed onto the interstate’s shoulder, according to John Gallagher, a spokesperson for Sound Transit.
The water line was turned off a few minutes before 9 a.m. and the on-ramp was closed. After a street sweeper came through the on-ramp was reopened around 10 a.m.
The incident caused a short interruption of water for a few houses, Gallagher said. The water line has since been turned back on.
