BELLINGHAM — A Whatcom County fire official says one person is dead after a fire at a home near Lake Samish in the Bellingham, Washington, area.
The Bellingham Herald reports that the man hadn’t been publicly identified as of Monday.
South Whatcom Fire Authority Assistant Chief Rod Topel says firefighters arrived last Friday to find the two-story house in flames. While the resident’s vehicle was in the driveway, the flames were too intense for firefighters to rescue anyone.
A body was recovered from the home. Property records indicate a middle-aged man lived there.
County medical examiner Dr. Gary Goldfogel says an autopsy was delayed so investigators could track down more information to help identify the person.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
