The city of Snohomish made its move last night in deciding to start penning a contract for police services with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. I wrote about it for Wednesday’s paper.
Talks with the sheriff’s office were expected to begin as soon as Wednesday, City Manager Larry Bauman said.
The details of the contract could take months to hammer out. For example, the city will have to decide how many deputies it wants assigned to Snohomish, how to accommodate investments from the Snohomish Police Foundation and how to transition personnel and equipment.
As of late Tuesday night, it was too early to say who will be directly involved in the negotiations, Bauman said.
If you’re interested in the kinds of policing options the city will be considering, check out this line-by-line comparison in the Aug. 16 City Council agenda. It starts on page 12.
