PARKLAND— Someone took the aluminum wheelchair ramp from the front steps of Bart Rowley’s home in Parkland, stranding the man inside.
The 55-year-old who was paralyzed in a 2008 truck crash can’t leave home without a ramp.
Rowley says he panicked. But his caregiver, Cheri Kriesel, connected with the father of a friend — retired carpenter Walt Edwards who went right to work.
The News Tribune reports he built a wooden ramp by Friday afternoon, the same day the ramp was discovered missing.
Edwards charged only the $200 for materials. Kriesel paid him and also stained the new ramp.
Rowley says they gave him back the ability to get out and shop for himself or go to the park.
