WHIDBEY ISLAND — Quaint towns, rugged lighthouses and even the state’s problem-plagued ferries helped Whidbey Island earn a place on Coastal Living magazine’s list of “Top 10 Romantic Island Retreats.”
“Stress starts to melt away as you step off the ferry onto this Washington island, just one hour north of Seattle,” the section on Whidbey Island begins.
“Rich in natural beauty, Whidbey Island is also home to picturesque towns and romantic B&Bs.”
Whidbey Island was the only place in Washington featured in the magazine. Other islands on the list include Manhattan, N.Y.; Big Island, Hawaii; Lovers Key, Fla. and Princess Royal Island, B.C.
“We’re getting the recognition that we deserve because the people who live here and the people who have visited here already know we are one of the most romantic destinations,” said Nancy Rowan, executive director of the Langley Chamber of Commerce. “We have beautiful views, cozy fireplaces and fabulous places to stay. So it is one the most romantic places, but now maybe more people will know about it.”
The list is part of Costal Living’s January-February issue.
