OAK HARBOR — Highway 20 on north Whidbey Island is expected to reopen by noon following a fatal accident at Jones Road this morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The road has been closed between Jones and Monkey Hill roads since 9:15 a.m. when a Jeep Cherokee crossed the center lane and collided with a Chevy pickup, according to Trooper K.C. Scott. The driver of the Jeep died at the scene. The pickup driver was taken to Whidbey General Hospital, where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
