MARYSVILLE — The Marysville School Board tonight agreed to pay $340,000 to buy out Superintendent Linda Whitehead’s contract, officially ending her nearly three-year tenure in the district’s top spot.
Moments later, it administered the oath of office to interim Superintendent Paul Sjunnesen, who will take over until July 1. The board also hired John Fotheringham of Northwest Leadership Associates to coordinate the regional search for a new superintendent.
One payment of $170,000 is due by Monday and the other $170,000 is to be paid next January.
The board last week accepted Whitehead’s buyout proposal, but terms of that agreement were never disclosed. Board members and district officials said the proposal wasn’t made in writing and had not been signed.
Whitehead on Friday asked Sjunnesen, who has been an adviser to the school board since January, to serve as acting superintendent while details were ironed out ending her employment with the district.
Whitehead leaves her $130,876-a-year job with more than two years left on her contract.
