Tom Lafferty, of Everett (and also the voice of KRKO Radio sports), drives through the interchange at U.S. 2 and Bickford Avenue several times a week. As the days get ever shorter, he’s worried about the overhead street lights that remain off at all hours.
“It’s a really dark stretch, plus the corners are somewhat blind on both ends of the overpass. Seems like a safety issue to me, especially on a rainy night,” Lafferty said.
Tom Pearce, a spokesman for the Washington State Department of Transportation, said a fix is in the works.
“The cabinet that controls the illumination near the U.S. 2-Bickford interchange recently was hit for the second time this year. Before we replace that cabinet again, we will install guardrail in the area to protect it. Once the guardrail is in place, we’ll replace the cabinet,” Pearce said.
