MARYSVILLE – An accused lead foot who risked a speeding ticket and perhaps a DUI now faces the likelihood of two felony charges after a high-speed chase through Marysville Thursday night.
He initially was clocked at driving 15 mph over the speed limit in a residential area, but that was
just the beginning of a dangerous attempt to avoid being stopped.
Marysville police say the driver of the black 1994 Mustang with tinted windows reached speeds of 100 mph through town and up to 90 mph on Grove Street, a main arterial. The pursuit began around 9:20 p.m.
A passenger told police she tried to convince the man to pull over several times, but he told her, “I am not stopping.”
The 36-year-old suspect was arrested for attempting to elude police. He also was jailed on suspicion of second-degree assault.
A police officer reported he felt “the driver was intentionally attempting to hit and injure me with his vehicle.” The officer said he pulled up behind the parked Mustang in a residential driveway in the 3100 block of 82nd Drive. NE. He heard the Mustang’s ignition turn over and tires spin out as the car accelerated in reverse . It narrowly missed the patrol car.
The Mustang struck a basketball hoop and then drove toward the officer, according to police reports.
The car chase ended after the Mustang drove over a spike strip police set up around 83rd Ave. and Soper Hill Road.
The driver then tried running. A police dog tracked down the suspect in some brush in the 4400 block of 58th Drive NE. His breath smelled of alcohol, police said.
