SEATTLE — A wildfire burning near Lake Chelan grew to about 42 square miles Thursday.
Officials at the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center say the Wolverine Fire is getting closer to Stehekin and Holden Village in Chelan County.
The fire started June 29 from lightning in remote timber and grass on the west side of Lake Chelan. Hot, dry weather has encouraged its growth. The blaze has shut down a section of the Pacific Crest Trail and several campgrounds. It has sent smoke wafting over the popular recreation area in central Washington.
