SEATTLE — Wildlife officials are working to tag 100 steelhead trout to see when the signals die off as the fish start their 14-day migration through Puget Sound to the ocean.
KING-TV reports Nisqually Natural Resources Manager David Troutt says last year two fish were caught in the Nisqually River compared to 2,000 in previous years.
A variety of groups including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are conducting the research.
Steelhead trout are considered threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
