SEATTLE — A Willapa Bay oyster processing company and its president pleaded guilty in federal court to violating the Clean Water Act.
U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes says Wiegardt Brothers and owner Frederic Wiegardt agree on Friday to pay a $175,000 fine for discharging effluent into Willapa Bay for two years.
Hayes says the president of the company knew that they were not performing the monthly effluent sampling that their permit required.
They penalty consists of a $100,000 fine and a $75,000 community service payment. Wiegardt must also complete 75 hours of community service.
