MARYSVILLE — A wind storm in Western Washington on Tuesday afternoon knocked out power to roughly 16,000 homes in Snohomish County.
The wind affected power lines and trees, some of which fell across roads. The areas affected included Bothell, Maltby, Marysville, Mill Creek and Mukilteo, said Aaron Swaney, a spokesman for the Snohomish County Public Utility District.
Some after-school programs in Marysville were canceled due to the storm. Power was restored to campuses, but it continued to flicker after 5 p.m. Bus routes were impacted, district spokeswoman Emily Wicks said. Classes were expected to resume Wednesday.
Parents should check www.flashalert.net to see if closures are expected in their school districts on Wednesday.
Sounder trains between Seattle and Everett reduced their speeds due to the storms. The National Weather Service reported that gusts were possible of up to 45 mph. The wind advisory was scheduled to expire late Tuesday evening.
