WHIDBEY ISLAND — The Coast Guard is searching for a 19-year-old woman who did not emerge from the water after diving in at Rosario Beach at Deception Pass State Park.
The woman, a student at Walla Walla University, dove in Monday near an underwater park popular with scuba divers. The park is near the Walla Walla College Marine Station
The college’s Marine Station is used by the school during the summer for biology teaching and research. According to KIRO-TV 7, the woman was with 11 other students on a field trip as part of an advanced scuba diving class.
Skagit County Fire and Rescue was called to the scene about 2 p.m.
Three rescue boats and two helicopters, one of which is from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, were looking for the woman.
