Woman, 4 girls injured when car strikes trailer

GOLD BAR — A Monroe woman and four girls were injured in a two-vehicle crash that closed U.S. 2 about five miles east of Gold Bar for about 3 1/2hours Wednesday.

The crash occurred about 1:45 p.m. when a Subaru collided with a trailer being pulled by a Snohomish County PUD truck in the Anderson Creek area, Washington State Patrol spokesman Lance Ramsay said.

The Subaru drifted over the fog line, then the driver overcorrected and crossed the center line to hit the trailer, according to the State Patrol.

The Subaru’s driver, Vivian Rothrock, 36, of Monroe was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and was in serious condition with abdominal injuries Wednesday night.

Kayla Carrey, 13, and Alexis Orr, 9, were in satisfactory condition at Harborview. Miranda Hanlon, 13, and Duston Orr, 8, were treated and released at Valley General Hospital in Monroe.

Donald Olson, 46, of Snohomish, the PUD truck driver, was not injured.

The crash destroyed the Subaru and did about $1,000 in damage to the truck’s trailer.

Christmas fires: Christmas Day fires burned mobile homes in Arlington and Snohomish, killing a dog and cat in one of the blazes.

The first fire occurred at 6:15 p.m. in the 28000 block of 44th Avenue NE in Arlington. The fire started in a bedroom, and the cause is undetermined, a Snohomish County fire marshal’s spokeswoman said. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the house. A cat and dog in the bedroom died.

Fire officials estimated damage to the structure at $65,000 and $20,000 to the contents.

A second fire discovered at 9:15 p.m. at a rented mobile home in the 5400 block of Wonderland Road in Snohomish apparently was sparked by radiant heat from a wood-stove chimney that ignited wood in the attic, the spokeswoman said. Fire officials estimated the damage to that structure at $65,000 and $25,000 to the contents.

Everett

Christmas crash update: Two drivers injured in a Christmas night crash in the 4900 block of Evergreen Way have been upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A 25-year-old Everett man suffered head, chest and abdominal injuries, and a 20-year-old Bothell woman suffered a head injury and multiple broken bones in the crash at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said Wednesday.

Police believe the man was driving too fast in a pickup on Evergreen Way, and the woman was leaving a grocery store parking lot and turning her van south onto Evergreen when the two collided, Bryant said. The man was trapped in the truck and the woman was ejected.

Police are investigating to determine whether the pickup was racing with another vehicle, Bryant said. At this point, police are not searching for any other driver, he said.
