POTLATCH — Law enforcement officers say a woman who was trapped inside a car that wound up in Hood Canal near Potlatch has died.
KIRO-TV reported the car apparently veered off U.S. 101 and plunged into the canal Tuesday near Potlatch State Park.
KIRO reported that two Skokomish tribal police officers tried to reach the woman but the car was too far underwater. Divers finally pulled her to the surface. The car also was pulled from the canal.
Washington State Patrol Sgt. Scott Gordon says one witness reported the car did not appear to brake, and just left the road and ended up in the water.
Firefighters, deputies, state troopers and others all tried to help her.
