GOLD BAR – Emergency workers pulled a young woman from a mine shaft early Sunday morning after she tried to rappel down the 300-foot-deep hole Saturday evening and got scared two-thirds of the way down.
The woman, in her 20s, was not injured in the incident, said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue personnel were called just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday after the woman’s climbing companion called for help. The climbers had rappelled 200 feet down into the Copper Bell Mine Shaft at Reiter Pit east of Gold Bar. The woman became scared when she descended to the 200-foot level, Jorgensen said. The Gold Bar Fire Department, assisted by Snohomish County Search and Rescue volunteers, rappelled down to the woman and brought her to safety by 1:30 a.m.
