A convicted child rapist who was once a Snohomish County elementary schoolteacher plans to return to Marysville when she is released in October.
Susan G. Lemery, 41, will be released from state prison Oct. 5 after serving three years behind bars. She was convicted in June 2002 of five felonies – two counts of third-degree child molestation and three counts of third degree child rape – for engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old boy.
Lemery plans to move to the 5400 block of Northeast 67th Street, the Marysville Police Department said. It was unclear whether she plans to move back in with her husband, Daniel Lemery, who lives on the same street.
Police officials will hold a public meeting about Lemery’s release at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Marysville Public Safety Building, 1635 Grove St. They could not be reached for comment Friday. Law enforcement agencies usually don’t publicize the release of level 2 sex offenders such as Lemery, who are at moderate risk of committing another crime.
“This notification is not intended to increase fear,” a police statement said. “Rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public.”
During Lemery’s 2002 trial, jurors were told that she had engaged in sex with two boys at her home, a place where young people frequently came to party. Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on one child molestation count that involved the second boy.
Lemery was sentenced to five years in prison, the maximum allowed under the law. However, she was given credit for good behavior and for time spent in jail during her trial.
She will be required to register as a sex offender with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office upon her release from prison.
