A judge Tuesday ordered the release of a 45-year-old woman who was arrested Monday night after a man was found dead in an apartment in the 3800 block of Lombard Avenue in Everett.
The woman appeared briefly Tuesday afternoon in Everett District Court after having been booked for investigation of second-degree manslaughter.
Deputy prosecutor Jim Townsend said an autopsy was performed on the man but there was no immediate determination of what caused his death. The man was identified in court papers as Gregory Michael Byrd, 49.
“This may very well not be a criminal issue,” Townsend told Judge Roger Fisher.
Meanwhile, another man who was arrested at the same apartment was being held on $10,000 bail for investigation of first-degree arson.
David Bryan Byrd, 47, was arrested after he allegedly tried to climb out a bedroom window of the apartment while medics and police were attending to Gregory Byrd, his brother. David Byrd went back inside when confronted by police, court documents said.
When police kicked in his barricaded door, officers found the curtains were on fire, documents said.
All three lived in the same apartment, and all were being monitored by Compass Health for mental disorders, documents said.
The problems started when Gregory Byrd pounded on the woman’s bedroom door demanding more beer, documents said. She told investigators Gregory dragged her out of the bedroom after accusing her of withholding beer from him.
The two began to wrestle, and he hit his head on some furniture, tuned pale and passed out, according to the court documents.
