A 44-year-old woman died Sunday in Index after being shot by a neighbor over a property-line dispute, according to police.
The woman’s name was not released.
A 60-year-old man was arrested shortly after the shooting and was being held in Snohomish County Jail on investigation of homicide, said Rich Niebusch, spokesman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 48500 block of River Park Drive in a gated neighborhood at the Sky Country Club, Niebusch said.
The woman, her husband and 16-year-old son lived part time on their Index property and the rest of the time in Idaho, Niebusch said.
The woman was alive when medics arrived and they tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he said. But she died before she could be taken to a hospital.
The dispute took place outdoors, Niebusch said. It is believed only one shot was fired, from a handgun.
The man was at the scene when police arrived and was interviewed and arrested without incident, Niebusch said.
He said the woman’s husband had been notified as of Sunday night, but the son had not been reached.
